A few Sundays ago we decided to head up to a meadow in the mountains. Kevin and Sharon and family joined us on our little outing. We were looking forward to a nice relaxing afternoon, however it ended up being quite eventful. We started off with a nice lunch. Then the older kids got to do a little fishing during which Noah managed to snag Emily's hand with a hook. Soon after that all the kids were having a good time climbing on logs etc. and we had them pose for a nice picture. However, Silas decided to stand up without holding on and lost his balance and went tumbling off the log head first into the brush below (I think his head was the first thing to hit). I had to have Sharon look at the injury first to make sure we didn't need stitches or worse, but he came away with just a bad scrape and bruise (I was very thankful for that since we were 2 hours away from anything!). Then later in the afternoon Kevin took Noah and Emily out fishing one last time and pretty soon we see him carrying both kids back. It turns out that while they were fishing he turned around and just 20 yards from them was a mother brown bear and 2 tiny cubs. Brown bears are not considered very dangerous, but they can get quite protective of their cubs. After getting safe distance away from the bears we had a fun time watching them. The cubs were quite small yet and were climbing up on their mother's back. It was really cute to see.
The trout were really small, but there were a lot of them!
The picture taken just before Silas fell....
I thought this was a cute little pose
You can just see 1 baby bear poking it's head up
to the left of the mother bear
Looking through "binoculars" at the bears
One scuffed up little boy!
